Online Courses

English today has become a standard language of communication in the professional world. If you know English, your chances of getting a job in India, as well as abroad, increase.

For many in India, English is not their first language. However, that does not really matter. Learning English is not difficult. Here are 5 simple ways in which you can learn English while staying at home:

  1. Surround Yourself with English

TV. Films. Newspapers. Books. There are so many options to learn English from!

One of the easiest ways to learn English is to watch English serials and movies.  There are subtitles in Hindi as well as English to make it easy for you to learn English.

The more English content you see and hear, the more comfortable will you feel wth the language.

Remember how we learnt to speak as kids? Nobody really taught us. We just heard and saw people around us speaking in English. Watching English serials and movies is just like that.

Reading is another great way to know more English words and improve your vocabulary. Pick up an English newspaper or a book and get into the habit of reading.

  1. Make Internet and Apps your Friends

Whenever you come across any word or phrase you do not know or understand, just search for it. Google will help you out within seconds!

There are also translation apps and dictionary apps available online to help you speak and write better in English. The app Duolingo for example, helps you translate words and sentences from Hindi to English.

  1. Take up a free English online course

There are many sites that offer free online English courses.  Use them to your full advantage. This site, for example, offers a variety of courses, depending on what you need. All of them are free.

Some of the popular courses include:

  • How to Learn English for Hindi speaking students

  1. Start speaking in English with your family & friends.

Practice makes perfect! Start talking to people around you in English. Speak to your friends or siblings.

They can be small phrases or small sentences. The more you do it, the more confident you will become.

You can also join discussion forums on your favourite topics online and comment on different articles online. This will help you fine-tune your skills.

  1. Don’t get tensed when it is English. Make it fun!

There are also a lot of gaming apps online, such as online English crosswords. You can download them and play to increase your vocabulary.

Remember how you learnt to speak when you were a child? By speaking and listening to people around you, reading, watching TV and making mistakes at times. Apply the same logic here. Do not get tensed if you do not know a word or cannot pronounce it properly. With practice, you will know that!
