The first thing you will need to apply for a job is a resume or a CV. But do you know what is a resume and why is it important?

As a fresher, you may think that there is not much to show in your resume. That's not true. Every resume requires a few key elements.

  1. Name: You want your name to be the first thing an HR sees. Write it in a clear font, so it is easily legible.

  2. Contact: This is essential information the HR requires to contact you to inform you of your selection or rejection. Give your email ID and Mobile number. For the address, add your city and state only. This maintains privacy while also showing the recruiter that you are from the area.

  3. About: This section requires you to talk about yourself in a couple of lines. You could say you have an educational background in and are hard-working and ambitious.

  4. Objective: Here, you write your reasons for wanting to join the organization. You can add how you think you will benefit the firm.

  5. Professional Skills: As a fresher, you may not have worked professionally before. Hence, you can add all the skills you have gained during your education or extra online courses.

  6. Educational Qualifications: This section contains information about all your degrees, courses, and schools. It includes the name of the institution you studied at and the duration of the study.

  7. Professional Experience: While you may not have worked professionally before, you can talk about any internship or volunteering experience you have. This could be as simple as babysitting, taking tuition or helping out at your mom's shop.

  8. Languages Known: Add all the languages you know and the level of fluency. For instance, you may know Hindi and English fluently but may know only speaking level Marathi.

  9. Other Achievements: Any extra-curricular activities you did in school or college can be added here. This includes participation in sports or speech events as well. If you have won any awards, those could be mentioned here too.

  10. Interests: This section contains general information about your hobbies and interests. It helps the HR know you better.

    The most popular resume format is the Reverse-chronological Format. It is easy to browse and preferred by recruiters. This format shows your most recent accomplishments, whether career or education-wise. This helps HR see what you achieved most recently.
